Bobby Brown Gets Child Support Offer From Hot 99.5

Clear Channel Mainstream Top 40 WIHT (Hot 99.5) may have finally found a new partner for morning man Kane...at least for a week! FMQB has learned exclusively that multi-platinum singer Bobby Brown could be released from jail if he accepts the station's offer to pay back child support in return for a week of employment on the CC Washington DC Top 40. He will sit in with Kane for a week of shows during morning drive which in itself should be interesting.

Brown Ordered Jailed Until He Pays $19K

CANTON, Mass. - Bobby Brown was ordered on Monday to remain in a county jail until he pays $19,000 in late child support and court fees, his lawyer said. "We're diligently working on getting those funds available from outside sources," said Phaedra Parks, an attorney in Atlanta where Brown currently lives. Parks doubted Brown would get out of jail before Tuesday morning.

Parks said the rhythm-and-blues singer has been struggling to meet monthly payments to Kim Ward, of Stoughton, the mother of his two teenage children.

"Although this agreement was put in place when he was Bobby Brown the star, this agreement is being enforced when he is not always able to find work," Parks told The Associated Press. "He hasn't made an album in quite some years."

Brown is in the midst of a divorce from pop diva Whitney Houston, after 14 years of marriage.

A judge in Norfolk Probate and Family Court ordered Brown held in the county jail in Dedham on Monday, one day after the singer was arrested while he was watching his daughter's cheerleading competition at Attleboro High School.

Adam Loomis of All State Constables in Weymouth said he served an arrest warrant against Brown for failing to appear at a child support hearing in October.

In October, Brown paid $11,000 in delinquent child support after being threatened with arrest if he stepped back into Massachusetts. He owed more than two months' worth of payments to Ward.

Brown currently owes child support payments from January, plus late penalties, Ward's attorney fees and constable fees, Parks said.

Brown, a Boston native best known for a solo hit "Don't Be Cruel," has a history of legal troubles. In June 2004, he was sentenced to 90 days in prison for missing three months of payments. That sentence was immediately suspended after Brown paid about $15,000.

Last March, when also in Massachusetts to watch his daughter at a cheering competition, Brown was nabbed for minor motor-vehicle violations dating back 14 years.

Being Bobby not so easy for out-of-shape singer

Bobby Brown was home in Boston over the weekend to do a private gig in Dedham and also turned up at Whiskey Park.

The Roxbury-bred r&b singer hopped onstage at the Park Square club when the DJ spun some old-school New Edition tunes and performed them for the bump-and-grind crowd.

But apparently the big weekend gigs took their toll, because another spy reported seeing the reality TV star all out of breath and leaning over a sink at the Westin hotel.

And that's what Being Bobby Brown was about this weekend . . . .

Troubled singer Bobby Brown in jail again

Constables nab R&B artist for failure to pay fines, appear in court.

Bad boy singer Bobby Brown's failure to appear in court and pay fines has landed him back in the slammer.

A father and son constable team armed with an arrest warrant slapped Brown in handcuffs when he arrived at Attleboro High School around 6 p.m. yesterday to see his daughter participate in a cheerleading competition.

Kim Ward of Stoughton, the mother of Brown's two teenaged children, was at the event and unaware of his arrest, according to Jerry Loomis of All State Constables in Weymouth.

"We heard he was going to be at his daughter's cheerleading competition," Loomis said. "We scanned the crowd first. We caught him on his way to the front door as he walked from the parking lot."

The 38-year-old Grammy Award-winning R&B artist, who is estranged from pop diva Whitney Houston, was completely surprised.

"He said he just wanted to go inside to see his daughter," Loomis said. "I told him I just couldn’t take a chance."

Loomis and his son, Adam Loomis, had been waiting for about 30 minutes before Brown arrived with a girlfriend and two men.

Brown later used Loomis' cell phone to make a call on the way to jail.

"He called his girlfriend and asked her to call (someone named) Johnny and get $20,000 up here tomorrow," Loomis said.

Brown, a Boston native, was held overnight at the Dedham jail. He was expected to be taken this morning to the Norfolk County Probate and Family Court in Canton.

Loomis said a judge issued an arrest warrant Oct. 2 when Brown skipped a court appearance.

Boston lawyer Linda Medonis, who represents Ward, gave Loomis the warrant yesterday.

Following Brown's arrest, Loomis said he got a call from the singer's Atlanta lawyer, Phaedra Parks, who said that if her client did owe child support it was only about $1,000.

Loomis said Ward's lawyer told him that Brown owed fines for late payments.

Bobby Brown: Whitney Houston and I Are 'Friends'

Bobby Brown is looking forward to life after Whitney Houston - though the two remain close because of their daughter, he tells PEOPLE.

"We're trying to work everything out so the divorce goes right - not like a Hollywood divorce," Brown said at Thursday's annual Vanity Fair Amped concert in Hollywood. "We're friends, you know. We're friends."

Brown, who is dad to Bobbi Kristina, 13, with Houston, added, "I'm really looking forward to her doing her thing, and me doing my thing. And that's raising a child. It's beautiful. Our child is beautiful."

Houston filed for divorce from Brown in October after 14 years of marriage, and petitioned in December to fast-track the divorce. But the estranged couple shared a dinner together with Bobbi Kristina in West Hollywood on Feb. 11.

"It has brought us closer together, always," Brown told PEOPLE of parenthood. "We have been close because of who we are together, and what that child means to us. She's the greatest thing in both of our lives. We just appreciate each other now that we know the direction that we both want to go."

Asked if he was dating any new women, Brown said, "There's a few."

Both Brown and Houston have upcoming albums, and Brown said he is shooting a follow-up to his 2005 reality show Being Bobby Brown.

"I'm as happy as I can be," he said. "I know God has given me a talent that I can use forever. As long as I stay healthy, I'll be okay."

Bobby Spotted in Vegas

Ahh, Welcome to the 56th All-Star Game in Las Vegas, home of $5.65 ATM fees and the $10 cab ride to go less than a mile. It's crowded here and it's going to get more crazy once folks who took off work early Friday hit the city limits later tonight.

Let's start with Thursday, which was basically a media-free day, as the All-Stars arrived in town. In the hotel gym at MGM was Moses Malone, who appears slimmer than in his playing days. The talk of the evening was the Alonzo Mourning party which featured a slew of celebrites, current players, former players and various interesting faces. There was a Bobby Brown sighting, and surprisingly he was not surrounded by a posse looking for trouble.

Gordon Chambers Talks About Bobby and Whitney

Gordon Chambers is one of the few people on the planet who's saddened by the Whitney Houston/Bobby Brown breakup. Not just because he wanted to work on future recording projects with the battling pair (Chambers had collaborated with the superstar couple on the duet "My Love," on Houston's 2002 Just Whitney album), but also because there might have been a sitcom in the trio's future. At least Chambers suggested one when hanging out with the pair.

"I have never had so much fun [as with] Whitney and Bobby," says Chambers, who appeared on the Christmas episode of the couple's notorious Bravo reality show, Being Bobby Brown. "They laughed and laughed...I told them, 'Y'all need to be on a sitcom.' I was like, 'Please let me just write a sitcom for y'all.' They were just a funny couple. I don't know what happened, but I just pray that they'll still be friends and, you know, can be amicably divorced. But I have never laughed so much in my life."

The Madness of Bobby

Can't live with him, can't live without him: That's what New Edition has learned over the years.

Working with a crazy person is tough. Working with a crazy person who plays an important role in your business is even tougher. But working with a crazy person who is your business takes a special sort of masochist.

So I'd like you to meet Michael Bivins, Ricky Bell, Ronnie DeVoe, and Ralph Tresvant. As members of New Edition, these four gentlemen made hearts throb in the '80s with such hits as "Candy Girl" and "Cool It Now." In fact, New Edition served as the pop-prototype for every Backstreeter and *NSYNCer in the plague of boy bands that would descend upon North America in the following decade. However, the multitalented teens in New Edition could actually sing, produce hits you can still listen to 20-odd years later, and perform live without lip-synching every word.

But like all the imitators who followed them, each baby-faced member of New Edition played out a specific archetype: Bivins was the serious fellow; Tresvant, the sensitive young man; Bell, the slickster; and DeVoe was "the one most likely to someday become a RE/MAX realtor." (It's true; check him out at www.thedevoeteam.com.)

That still leaves one role to fill: the crazy guy. And the two most-asked questions about New Edition concern that guy: Will he appear at the group's next show? (Answer: No.) And will he be on the next N.E. album? (Answer: Yes . . . allegedly.)

Oh, my bad. Where are my manners? I'd like you to meet Bobby Brown . . .

Robert Beresford Brown was one of the founders of New Edition, but he was also the baby of the group; he wasn't even 15 when they blew up. That might have been why -- behind all the smiling press photos -- he was throwing tantrums and bucking for a solo career, even at the height of the group's mid-'80s success. Then again, he might have been smarter than anyone realized at the time. New Edition couldn't go on singing about candy girls forever, and Bobby -- on the verge of manhood -- got himself voted out of the group in 1987.

King of Stage, Brown's first solo album later that same year, was a New Edition sound-alike that stiffed, but a year later, his second effort, Don't Be Cruel, took the new jack swing that producer Teddy Riley had been incubating with singer Keith Sweat and spread it worldwide. (R&B is still commercially relevant today largely because of new jack, the bridge that connected soul to hip-hop.) Besides, if you're under 30 and you know what the word "prerogative" means, you probably owe that knowledge to Bobby and not to one of your teachers. There was a method to his madness -- even back then.
