Brown Bashes Tabloid Rumours

R&B star BOBBY BROWN has lashed out a tabloid reports his wife WHITNEY HOUSTON is suffering from a brain tumour and abusing drugs. The star slammed the rumours as "a pack of lies" on 19 May (06), while attending a concert for his nephew's new band in Atlanta, Georgia. Brown claims, "My wife is wonderful...she is fine." The star also hit out at rumours of an impending divorce saying, "We are...working on our relationship. I look in her eyes and I see God." Oddly enough, Brown spent most of the evening with his sister,TINA BROWN, who was the source of stories that appeared in the US tabloids. She also offered up photos of the fallen superstar's alleged drug den. Brown added, "(My wife) and my sister are close."

True Story Behind: "Every Little Step"

I'd heard other stories of "saving." Tales of folk with small fortunes in the bank while their basic needs go unmet; polyethylene-covered furniture in meticulously appointed living rooms reserved for "special occasions" that never arrive.

"Saving" could cause you to miss the very thing for which you are "saving."

Songwriter/producer Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds once told me that in 1988 he and Antonio "L.A." Reid had already contributed several potential hits to what would become singer Bobby Brown's second album, when then MCA Black Music President Jheryl Busby heard a demo tape of yet another Babyface song Busby thought would be perfect for Brown.

Babyface's answer was an emphatic no. "I was saving it for my own album," he explained. Busby, undaunted, pleaded with 'Face to at least let him play the song for Brown. Cautiously,'Face relented: Bobby could HEAR it. That's all.

Brown, Busby would report, loved the tune and wanted to record it. "No way," 'Face said. "It's for me. Plus, Bobby wouldn't do it justice. It's not his style."

"Well," persisted Busby, "how about going into the studio with Bobby. Put his voice on the track--not to release, but just for the hell of it?"

After considerable trepidation, 'Face agreed--and got a surprise. "Bobby performed the hell out of it," he conceded. "He made it HIS."

The song, the dynamic, buoyant, "Every Little Step," reached #3 on the pop charts. Its success helped push Brown's smash 1989 album, "Don't Be Cruel," way past the six million mark--in the process teaching Babyface, then a fledgling hit-meister, a million-dollar lesson.

Where's Whitney?

Bobby Brown showed up, as expected, at the New Edition concert Friday at Chastain Park, where Hot-107.9 personality Akini asked him "How's Whitney [Houston]?" Brown's answer: "I don't know! Ask Whitney. Whitney, when you get this, give me a call!"

Cherelle Urges Bobby To Speak Up

WHITNEY HOUSTON's best pal has called on the troubled singer's husband BOBBY BROWN to come forward and publicly distance himself from claims his sister TINA has made about his wife's alleged drug problems. Soul star CHERELLE was appalled when Tina Brown took her story to the US tabloids and claimed Houston was a sex-mad junkie - even offering up photos of the fallen superstar's alleged drug den. But she urges fans not to take Tina's comments to heart. She tells urban magazine Sister 2 Sister, "Tina Brown is Tina Brown... Is somebody mad at somebody because she doesn't take care of them or what? "My thing is this: if anybody needs to try to give a statement on something like this right now, it should be Bobby and that is the bottom line as far as I'm concerned. "How in the hell did it get to where his sister could do some s**t like this? Let's deal with it. My sister-in-law would never have gotten past my husband with no s**t like this. They would never have done that out of respect... How did it get to the point they could do that?" And Cherelle urges other Houston critics to think about the singer's teenage daughter, BOBBI KRIS, before going public with claims and allegations. She fumes, "Maybe they're that messed up or money-hungry that they don't give a damn what they do but they don't even care about KRISSY. That is Krissy's mama."

Here's the June 06 issue of Sister 2 Sister magazine (The source of the story):

Ralph T's Favorite Bobby Moment

No need to check your calendar; it is indeed 2006, and New Edition is indeed still going strong. The on again, off again, back on again R&B group has reunited, this time with Bobby Brown, and just wrapped up a U.S. tour.

Favorite Bobby Brown moment?

I have a whole bunch of Bobby Brown moments. I'm a big Bobby Brown fan. I learned a lot from being around Bobby as far as being assertive and not being too reserved. I also think of Bobby driving past a homeless person and giving them $500, $600 dollars. He's a very, very, warm person. People don't see that side of Bobby.

Bobby to appear on Mike Jone's new album!

Mike Jones: That's my dude. T.I. showed a lot of love to me. Matter of fact, I got him on a track on the album with Bobby Brown. It's a "Tendoroni" remix. It was for his album, but he didn't use it. I asked him if it was cool [for me to put the song on my album] and he said it was cool. So the track is fire. Feature-Mike Jones:Icebreaker Part 1

Possible "Lying Eyes" Remix!?!?

Brown's single is being released via his own Brown Skin record label. The singer says he still wants to put his album out via a major label and is continuing to field offers. As was the case in January, Brown is looking for a hefty pay day for his music. Brown is also in talks with G-Unit's DJ Whoo Kid to spearhead a remix featuring Lloyd Banks.

Bobby Brown Confronts 'Lying' Media, Joins New Edition Onstage

Singer celebrates new single with haircut and surprise appearance. Bobby Brown is still looking for the truth and a label to call home, but fortunately, he's finally found a barber.

When MTV News last hooked up with Brown in January, the singer explained the unkempt afro he was rocking as a way of keeping a promise to himself: He said he wouldn't cut his hair until he put out a single.

Somebody tell former pro-wrestling great Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake to dust off his shears. Brown is back to getting his hair cut regularly thanks to his new single, "Lying Eyes."

The record finds the singer questioning and chastising what appears to be his girl: "Can it really be what I think I see or am I going out of my mind?/ All my family , they see what I see/ We all can't be that blind/ Who you looking at with those lying eyes .../ Don't you know they're the windows to your soul?"

On Tuesday (May 2), Brown's representative spoke on the singer's behalf, clarifying that the song is not actually about a woman - especially not Mrs. Brown herself, Whitney Houston. Rather, the singer is addressing his love/hate relationship with the media and its portrayal of his family.

On Friday, Brown was sporting his new hairdo, a dark Caesar cut, as a surprise onstage guest during a New Edition concert. With Ralph Tresvant, Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Ronnie DeVoe and Johnny Gill all in, New Edition electrified the Beacon Theater for approximately two hours. Brown joined the group for "Mr. Telephone Man," "Jealous Girl" and his own "My Prerogative" and also helped out on "Do Me," singing background vocals for the Bell Biv DeVoe hit. He also performed with New Edition on Saturday in Washington D.C.

All six members of New Edition will be performing at the Essence Music Festival, scheduled for July 1-3 in Houston.

Thank you, Special Kev.
