Bobby to appear on MTV's new series "The Shop"

The Shop, a new reality series that chronicles all the goings-on at Rooney's - all the debates, the "yo momma" jokes, the pseudopolitical commentary, and the wry observations. The show, part McLaughlin Group, part BET's video show 106 and Park, is the brainchild of Corey Rooney, a popular R&B producer and founder of the shop. The barbers, while plying their trade, watch music videos and critique them, trade gossip and insults, and informally interview celebrities who drop in. Diddy, Bobby Brown, the boxer Zab Judah, and the rappers Young Jeezy, Fat Joe, and Tony Yayo have all paid visits in recent weeks.

Bobby Brown Is Back!!!!

Singer planning New Edition, solo tours for this year.

NEW YORK-Bobby Brown is sweating like Patrick Ewing at the foul line-but he's smiling, and more importantly, he's singing again. He's been gone for too long.

"The rehearsal is really tough," Bob says while sitting in a
control room in the back of Smash Studios, where he's taking a cigarette break from practicing with his band and backup singers. "It's hard for me to hold back. I try to keep the same energy I do onstage [during a live show], so that it's for real. Give me a mic and band, man, ain't no telling how long I'll perform. Ill keep going for years. I love it."

In his prime, Bob claimed to be the King of Stage (the title of his 1987 solo debut) and made it difficult for anyone to dispute him. His approached to performing was untamed, unpredictable and unvarnished: He'd go to any length to entertain, even if meant getting arrested for lewd conduct (as he was in Atlanta in 1993).

Unfortunately, Brown has made more headlines in the past decade for his numerous run-ins with police and his very public relationship with wife Whitney Houston than he has for making music. He hasn't put out an album since 1997's Forever, which came on the heels of the troubled 1996 New Edition Home Again reunion tour and was basically ignored by fans and panned by critics.

"I took time off to raise my kids, make sure they are well grounded," Brown says of his extended break from recording. "My kids are teenagers now, so it's time for daddy to go back to work and let mommy sit back at home. She was working while I was at home raising the kids; now she's at home while I'm working. I'm trying to stay positive, stay focused and grounded. It's a whole new world out there: A lot of people haven't seen Bobby Brown perform."

Lately though, Brown has been hitting the stage here and there over the last few months: He may not be breaking out all of his old dance moves, but he's as magnetic as ever. In October, he helped New Edition steal the show at the BET 25th Anniversary special, and earlier this month he tore the roof off the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, New Jersey, with a guest performance that found him joining his former New Edition bandmates in Bell Biv DeVoe.

Although the bandmembers announced onstage that night that they'd be reforming for a tour in 2008, Brown now says the group will begin an eight-week trek in March-and he'll be taking a solo show on the road later this year and possibly bring along Guy and SWV (he says he's been talking to both acts).

"Ah man, I can't explain what performing is for me," he says. "It's what I do, man. I love to see people smile and have a good time."

In fact, Brown even refers to the New Edition jaunt as a continuation of the ill-fated 1996 Home Again tour. Brown's squabbling with the group on that trek was well documented in VH1's "Behind the Music" special on the group last year, which leads one to wonder why Brown thinks it would work this time.

"Just growing up and knowing you have friends somewhere in the world and you're not around them," he explains, noting that he was displeased with the way the "Behind the Music" was put together but harbors no animosity toward the group members. "I guess that's what I realized-they are my friends. I love 'em all, I love them dearly. We all we got! We're grown men now-we're looking forward to getting back on tour together and hanging out. It's gonna be fun."

During Brown's break from music, there have been plenty of R&B singers vying to win the hearts of fans. Brown says some of the younger guys remind him of himself.

"I've seen a lot of myself [recently], especially with Usher," he notes. "He basically did my whole show -he does my whole show as if it was me [onstage]. I guess that's what kept my name out there. Him and Omarion are the two artists I can say have a lot of my flavor.

"I call them little mini-me's!" he continues. "But I have my little son now. Both my sons, they're working on their stage presence-so Omarion and Usher, watch out, because my sons are coming."

Even if Brown sounds a little haughty when talking about the new breed of R&B, he does clarify by saying, "I love it-it's a compliment to me as a performer, and I thank y'all for that."

Brown says his new album is coming along superbly, noting that he's worked with several new producers thus far and hopes he can get back in the lab with Teddy Riley-who produced many of his classic records like "My Prerogative"- and estranged collaborators like L.A. Reid and Babyface.

"Hopefully me and L.A. and 'Face can make amends and we can get some business done," he smiles. "I'm here, guys."

Brown doesn't yet have a label (he says he's letting his hair grow until he releases a single, thus his wooly afro), but claims companies are currently bidding for his services.

"I don't ever want to be in a relationship with a company just for money, but that's what it's about right now," he says. "I got kids I support, so the money is gonna be important. Whoever comes with the fattest check, that's who's gonna get me."

He's also looking forward to doing a second season of his reality sitcom, "Being Bobby Brown," although it has not yet been confirmed that there will actually be a second season.

"I'm looking forward to doing that show again, because it was therapy," Brown says. "Things I was doing wrong with my life, 'Being Bobby Brown' made better."

Of course, the show is as much about being Whitney Houston as it is her husband. Brown denies the recent spate of rumors that he and his spouse of 14 years are getting divorced-to hear him speak about her, it sounds like they're going stronger than ever.

"It's like marriage counseling for me and my wife," he said. "When we look at it, we get to see exactly what our good points and bad points are.

"She's my best friend, that's my buddy," he affectionately adds about Whitney, who he says was reluctant to be on camera at first. "I think it's just our relationship with God that we have that make us the power couple we are. Our love was Godly. We have the same birthmarks in two places, so we were meant to be together."

But back at Smash Studios, Brown is eager to get back to another love: the stage. He goes through "Every Little Step" and "Get Away," and during a stripped-down version of "Roni" that he sings while sitting in a chair, he yells out, "Hey! I need my own 'Unplugged'!"

He starts singing again, but quickly bounds out of his seat and does two pelvic thrusts in time with the drums and piano.

Bobby Brown is back, all right.

Bobby Brown: Whitney Divorce Rumors False

Bobby Brown is brushing off reports that he and wife Whitney Houston are headed for divorce court. "The rumors are wrong," Brown told PEOPLE on Thursday. "They're false."

Among several recent reports about the couple, New York's Daily News said the R&B singer, 36, was telling friends that he was planning to divorce Houston, 42. (The Atlanta-area based couple have a daughter, Bobbi Kristina, 12). The Daily News also reported that earlier this month Brown was seen with several women backstage at Connecticut's Foxwoods Casino.

Asked by PEOPLE on Thursday how the story started, Brown replied, "I really couldn't tell you. They say I said something about it, but I joke a lot. ... I don't think I said it, but if I did it was a joke. Trust me. ... It's someone that got the words mixed up."

When Houston heard the story, Brown says, "Oh, she called me! She's calling me on a regular basis like, 'Bobby! Did you say this? Did you say that?'"

Brown describes Houston as "definitely upset." As for himself, he says, "There's no way I can be upset, because I didn't say it and I'm not trying to divorce her, and that's the most important thing.

"She's my friend," he adds. "She's the better half of me. They say opposites attract, but we're not opposites. We're one person. We're loving life, and we're just trying to be as good to each other as possible. And we're moving on."

Brown went on to say that, despite his and Houston's admitted drug and alcohol battles and domestic squabbles (two years ago, police charged Brown with misdemeanor battery after he allegedly assaulted Houston in their home): "What's important is that we love each other. It doesn't matter what people say. They want to try to break us down anyway. That's not for us. We're here, and we're gonna be together for a long time, so people can expect us to stay together. ... I'm with my wife for the duration --and that's life."

One place they weren't together was Brown's gig on Thursday, at Toad's Place in New Haven, Conn. "She missed her flight because she had a dental appointment," said Brown, "but ... I will dedicate this show to her."

Bobby Brown denies he's divorcing Whitney

Despite ongoing tabloid reports to the contrary, Alpharetta pop star Bobby Brown said Wednesday that his 14-year marriage to Whitney Houston remains intact.

Syndicated talk show host Wendy Williams interviewed Brown in the studio at WBLS-FM in New York and asked him point blank about the state of his marriage. The New York Daily News had a gossip item this week about the union, which was a hot topic on some Atlanta radio stations Wednesday morning.

"It's not true," Brown said. "There's no divorce. We're together. I'm out working and she's home with the baby. I miss you, baby, where ever you are."

Brown said he expected Houston to fly in for his scheduled concert tonight in Connecticut.

Houston's camp, meanwhile, wasn't discussing the couple's future Wednesday. Said her Atlanta attorney Mark Trigg: "Ms. Houston doesn't wish to make a public statement at this time."

Last weekend, Brown joined his old New Edition bandmates on stage in Atlantic City during a Bell Biv DeVoe concert. Brown said Wednesday that a fully reunited New Edition would start an eight-week tour beginning in March.

Said Brown: "We're going to do about eight weeks and get a couple of fat checks."

During a segment featuring phone calls from WBLS listeners, Brown reiterated that both he and Houston, who have battled substance abuse, are "clean" currently. "I'm not on dope anymore. . . Coke? Totally gone. . . It got to the point that my daughters didn't talk to me for a while. When your kids don't talk to you, it hurts. I had to clean up, cold turkey. I'll have a drink every once in a while. . . I just wish people would leave us alone and let us get a few years of sobriety under our belts."

He confirmed that he and Houston's primary residence remains here but they maintain homes in New Jersey and Florida.

The pop star said he's also pursuing producing a second season of his reality series "Being Bobby Brown" for Bravo and debuting a second series "Brown and Son" that would feature his father, Pops, and son, Landon.

Bobby to appear on Wendy Williams Radio Show

To promote his concert at Toad's place "in New Haven, CT on Jan. 19, 2006. Tickets can be purchased at Etix.com The prices are $20 for the concert ticket and $25 for the after party." And to clarify all the rumors that are circulating.

Rumor: Whitney & Bobby may have made a split decision

Are Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown finally ending their troubled 14-year marriage?

A Lowdown spy reports that the 36-year-old Brown - who shares a 12-year-old daughter with the 42-year-old R&B superstar - has been telling friends and acquaintances they're splitsville.

The weekend before last, during a visit to the Foxwoods Casino in Mashantucket, Conn., Brown was spotted chatting up pretty women backstage while the all-girl group SWV (which stands for Sisters With Voices) performed along with male groups Guy and Blackstreet.

"While flirting with a bunch of women, they asked, 'What's up with your wife?' Bobby said, 'We ain't together no more. We're getting a divorce,' " says the spy.

If the divorce report is true, then Whitney and Bobby might have gotten their last bit of ink as a famous pair with Ebony magazine's "10 Hottest Couples" feature in the latest issue. The Bravo reality show "Being Bobby Brown" spotlighted intimate details of their marriage.

Brown, who's been trying to revive his career as a crooner with a national concert tour this spring, told folks at Foxwoods that he wants SWV to go on tour with him. At one point in the evening, Teddy Riley, founder of the trio Guy, lured Brown onstage to perform an old hit.

The song was titled, maybe appropriately, "My Prerogative."

Brown and Houston's PR rep didn't respond to Lowdown's detailed messages yesterday.

New Edition Reuniting Again - And This Time, Bobby's On Board

Group planning extensive tour-but not until 2008.

Dust off those "I Love Ralph" and "Ronnie Is So Sexy" T-shirts-New Edition are reuniting. An expanded lineup featuring the group's six members-Bobby Brown, Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Ronnie DeVoe, Ralph Tresvant and Johnny Gill will be hitting the road for an extensive tour that is planned to last at least two months. The catch: The tour won't happen until 2008.

The announcement was made by Bivins onstage in Atlantic City, New Jersey, on Sunday, after Brown performed a couple of numbers with Bell Biv DeVoe.

The group has reunited in various forms before: All six for the 1996 LP Home Again and its troubled ensuing tour (not all six members were still in the group at the tour's end) and, minus Brown, for the Diddy-helmed One Love in 2004. In recent months, various members have been performing shows and making sporadic appearances, including on BET's 25th anniversary show.

On Sunday, at an R&B show billed "Body & Soul" at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, Brown-who has also been touring solo jumped onstage twice to rapturous applause, once with Bell Biv DeVoe and once by himself.

"Your brother is here!" Brown said from the backstage while BBD performed. The group's lead singer Ricky Bell announced he was sick and was performing against doctor's advice. Although he did not disclose his ailment, it seemed like he was hampered by the flu because he could barely sing-the usually stellar crooner sounded more like the raspy Young Jeezy than he did himself. Brown joined the group and helped with lead vocals during "When Will I See You Smile Again?" and BBD's "Poison."

Brown returned later for a very brief solo set, wearing an all-black suit with an orange dress shirt. He tore into "Every Little Step," then "Roni," and when the music for "My Prerogative" came on, he tore open his shirt, sending buttons flying into the front row. He performed the song bare-chested, with his tie still around his neck and a fur coat on.

New Edition aren't the only R&B artists on the comeback trail: Keith Sweat, Guy and En Vogue also performed at "Body & Soul." Guy announced onstage that they will have a new LP out this year and it looks like En Vogue will be following suit: The Funky Divas performed a brand-new single at the show. For the most part, all of the "Body and Soul" performers look the same as they did a decade ago, and their voices stand the test of time well.

On a related note, SWV were not at "Body & Soul" but have been performing dates with Keith Sweat and Guy. They also have plans to release new material this year: an SWV LP and a solo gospel project from group member Coko.
