WINNERS

Bobby Brown. For more than a decade, Brown had simply been written off as the husband of a diva songstress, but the Bravo reality show, "Being Bobby Brown," made the former New Edition front man a household name again. Scores of people -- either longtime fans from the "Mr. Telephone Man," "My Prerogative," and "Tenderoni" days or simply those curious to see how Mr. and Mrs. Whitney Houston lived -- tuned in en masse to the weekly show. And they were never disappointed as Brown kept it oh-so-real, sharing with the television audience any and everything he liked to do with and for Houston. "Being Bobby Brown" became, for many, appointment TV and gave everyone a great deal to talk about around the water cooler.

"This reality show not only brought him back to the forefront of pop culture, but it positioned him to start doing shows and wowing audiences," Murray told BlackAmericaWeb.com. "Bobby has become a star again."

Everything's coming up Bobby

Roxbury's own Bobby Brown, the R&B singer whose inane reality show, ''Being Bobby Brown," has been an improbable hit for Bravo, is predicting big things for the new year. Whitney Houston's hubby tells the Associated Press: ''I'm going back to the top. I've got a new album, a new series, new everything. My wife has a new album. There's so much going on." The always-unpredictable Brown managed to upset some parents last week when he declared on his holiday TV special that ''there's no such thing as Santa Claus." But that's Bobby being Bobby. ''I don't change for nobody," he said. .

Celebrities, Mother Nature kept us tuned in

"Being Bobby Brown" (Bravo): Oh, where to begin? With the unforgettable catchphrases ("Hell to the no!"; "The forest is over!")? The ATL at its finest, most fractured settings (one minute the Palm in Buckhead, the next, "David and Busters" in Duluth)? Or just the reflected glow that comes from playing couch posse to this generation's version of Hepburn and Tracy? Bobby and Whitney. Forget their 13-year marriage; we never thought they'd make it through a 10-episode TV season. But they triumphed where other celebrity reality shows have failed, because unlike the Hulk Hogan-types trying to act all "normal" and down-to-earth, Mr. and Mrs. Brown were loudly, proudly larger-than-life. And we loved 'em for it. Where to begin? Oh, please, tell us last week's Christmas special wasn't the end!

Celebrity Favs: Bobby Brown

He's not only "the original king of R&B" (just ask his wife if you want to debate) and probably the only person that likes to breakdance to the sound of Christmas carolers singing, he also loves the place he migrated to: the ATL. In true B-Brown fashion, though, Bobby says he thanks himself for the city being so large in status. "The hottest thing about Atlanta is me, my brother Tommy and [Jermaine Dupri]," Brown determined. "I was the one who made Atlanta hot, but now it's time for me to move on and make another place hot."

Forsyth singers set to appear on reality show

Some Forsyth Central High School students will have a few minutes of fame later this month.

Members of Forsyth Central's Chamber Singers found themselves being filmed for a Christmas episode of the TV reality show "Being Bobby Brown" at the home of recording artists Brown and Whitney Houston during an outing last weekend, said Bonita Lynch, press manager for the Bravo network show

Jan Stage, Central's choral music director, said the Chamber Singers make an annual trip to the Country Club of the South neighborhood in Alpharetta to sing Christmas carols each December.

"... This year we were walking around and noticed all these cars parked on the street near (Brown and Houston's) home," Stage said. "A young man came up to us and said we needed to go to Bobby Brown's house because they were filming this show there."

Stage said the group did make their way to the Brown home and rather than singing on the doorstep as usual, they were invited inside the home.

The Forsyth Central singers apparently were well received by Brown and Houston, who insisted several times that they stay and keep singing.

Stage said one of the producers for "Being Bobby Brown" told the group that they will appear on the Dec. 21 episode of the program.

"We may only be on there for two seconds, but it was still a cool experience," Stage said.
