Whitney Houston seeks divorce from Bobby Brown

After a 14-year marriage marked by bizarre public behavior, wild tabloid headlines and brushes with the law, pop superstar Whitney Houston is seeking a divorce from celebrity husband Bobby Brown.

Houston's attorney, Mark Trigg, confirmed Wednesday she had filed a petition for separation in California, where she is working on a comeback album. "Under California state law, if you haven't been a resident for six months, you must first file a petition for separation. But Ms. Houston considers this a divorce action."

served with the legal papers but did not have any additional comment.

Houston and Brown have been Atlanta's most transfixing celebrity couple for much of the past decade, playing out much of their roller coaster relationship on a public level shocking even by showbiz standards, not just on stages, but even in the warts-and-all family dynamic they displayed on their own reality TV show.

The couple, who has a 13-year-old daughter, Bobbi Kristina, owns a $1.35 million home in Alpharetta's gated Country Club of the South. And they became familiar guests around town at ritzy restaurants such as Palm, Prime and Chopstix, at the Ritz-Carlton Buckhead, and at family outings at Dave & Buster's in Duluth.
